Randi Rhodes was behind the mix-up that degenerated into ‘right-wing conspiracy’ slurs

Go figure.

I said this earlier this week:

… the story took a crumb of information and packaged it with what was quite frankly a hell of a lot of conjecture and accusations. I held my tongue, for the most part, about the accusations, and wished Rhodes well. I still do; Randi Rhodes is not the subject of my scorn this afternoon.

I had saved any criticism of Rhodes because it was assumed that she didn’t accuse anyone of attacking her when there was no evidence of an assault whatsoever. Now it turns out that Randi Rhodes did send an e-mail to Air America staffers saying that she was mugged. As Brian Maloney said, her explanation, which you can listen to at the above link, was very confusing and doesn’t add up.

Her complaint that no one in the press asked if she was all right is also enlightening. Was it a shock for her to realize that the mainstream media isn’t the compassionate, truth-at-any-cost, fight-the-machine outfit that liberals seem to believe? Perhaps she’s got a taste of what it’s been like for the Bush administration over the last six years? (That should set the left side of the blogosphere on fire)

If you look back through all the conservative blogs that were accused of being run by psychopaths who want to drag liberals through the street, you’ll notice that they all wished Randi well. I guess the filters at Air America clean out any positive comments by conservatives in addition to any positive news from Iraq.

Speaking of Iraq, Randi offered this wonderful gem on her return:

“If I had been attacked by Blackwater thugs, I wouldn’t be here. Ask any Iraqi.”

And she also “doesn’t know” how the rumors of right-wing involvement got started. Nevermind that 5 minutes ago she admitted that she wrote a confused e-mail alleging an attack to Air America after it happened.

Here are some other questions asked by Brian:

  • Why did she send an email to Air America staffers claiming to have been mugged if there was no indication one had occurred?
  • Why has host Jon Elliot been forced to apologize for simply relaying Randi’s note to network listeners? Is he the fall guy for her dishonesty?
  • Since there was never any evidence to support an attack claim, why did she even suggest this possibility in a way she knew would reach the press?
  • Why won’t she tell us how much she’d had to drink before she’d stepped out of the Irish pub?
  • And perhaps most importantly, why doesn’t it bother her that the phony mugging story was quickly turned into a chance to beat up on conservatives, who were actually blamed for the incident?

Still, I’m glad to see that I was right when I said this:

I look forward to being annoyed by what she has to say on the radio.

According to one pub dude, she had fourteen [14] Ketel One Bloody Marys before she “fell.” I weigh over 250 and ten KO’s are enough to make me “fall.” Especially on an empty stomach! Air America continues to amaze—wonder if the NYT is going to cover this as closely as AA’s early “triumphs?”

    AA & KO, sort of a set-up for a stand-up comedian?
