Can’t say that I feel sorry for the man. He just didn’t have the will to inspire his organization. Most of what I want to say about the Fred withdraw can be seen in this post from earlier today. The question is where to go next. Who is an acceptable alternative to our favorite Foghorn Leghorn?
It’s either Romney or Rudy for me. Most likely the former. Mitt might be a flip-flopper, but at least he spins a good yarn on the campaign trail.
What I will say is that those Fredheads who are thinking about ‘sitting this one out’ in the name of purity are making a huge mistake. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again, but the country will not hold elected Democrats responsible to the degree that you think if Hillary or Obama gets in and everything goes to hell. The media doesn’t blame them for their faults now, and when they have the bully pulpit accountability will only become more scarce. The Republicans will still be cast as the fuddy-duddies to blame for the ills brought on by runaway entitlements and lax foreign policy. If you stay home and say ‘that’ll teach ‘em’, then you’ll be the one getting taught in the end when April 15 comes around and you’re swimming in new taxes and universal healthcare. Fight for principles if you like, God bless those who do, but don’t become an unwitting accomplice to a Democratic victory in 2008.
