Huckabee campaigning? Nah, paid speech instead.
Posted by Neocon in 2008 Race, Republicans(Via QandO) Huckabee heads to the Cayman Islands for a paid speech gig instead of campaigning.
On the charter flight from Little Rock to somewhere in Wisconsin, Chip Saltsman, Huckabee campaign manager came back to the press section and informed us that Huckabee will leave Wisconsin Friday, and head to the Cayman Islands to give a paid speech, booked several months ago.
Fox News has found out that it will be at the Young Caymanian Leadership Awards banquet in Grand Cayman, where Huckabee spoke several years ago. Huckabee will be there Friday night through Sunday morning and be back in Wisconsin Sunday evening to campaign through Tuesday when they hold their primary.
… yeah, he knows he isn’t going to be the Nominee. Can you Hucksters fall into line unenthusiastically like everyone else now?
(Have to admit, though, McCain got me a little more warmed up with that no to anti-waterboarding vote)
Update 12:50PM CST: Allahpundit wonders what the big deal is.
The big deal isn’t so much that he’s speaking, it’s that he’s continuing to act under the auspices that he has a viable national campaign. It’s encouraging the Huckabee supporters to keep roaming the internet saying we need to unite behind him… when he isn’t a serious candidate anymore. It’s hurting the early advantage the GOP has with McCain being the clear nominee. That’s all. More power to him for making moola other than that.
