Hot Air, MM, and Drudge are reporting that Romney will be endorsing McCain today.

Republican campaign dropout Mitt Romney agreed Thursday to endorse Sen. John McCain for the party’s presidential nomination and ask his national convention delegates to swing behind the party front-runner, according to officials familiar with the decision.

The article goes on to say that this would be enough to put McCain over, but I don’t know how that works or if I’m missing something.

With CNN’s election coverage count, Romney’s delegates would put McCain very close to the magic number that Huckabee keeps talking about.

827+286= 1113

You need 1191 to win the primary. McCain would only need about 78 delegates to seal it up, assuming that Romney’s delegates will honor his wishes and go for McCain.

CNN just reported that Romney aides say the former Massachusetts’ Governor is doing this to give a clear hint to Huckabee that “he is being a pest”. Not an official quote, but certainly interesting…
