North Korea has become a subject of interest over at The Jawa Report. Good Lt. has been able to find some really great videos online that will help ease anyone into ‘the Hermit Kingdom’ if all they know about the Kims comes from Team America.
North Korea is also the subject over at Gateway Pundit with an example of why we don’t see any public protests in North Korea like we’re so often treated to over here.
22 North Koreans who had been returned home after their boats drifted into South Korean waters were all immediately executed by North Korean authorities.
I’ve read quite a few books on North Korea over the last four years, and I can recommend the following. I’m sure there are other good ones out there, but these are the books that keep popping up in my mind when North Korea comes up.
Rogue Regime: Kim Jong Il and the Looming Threat of North Korea
Kim Jong-Il: North Korea’s Dear Leader
Over the Line: North Korea’s Negotiating Strategy
Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader: North Korea and the Kim Dynasty
The Two Koreas: A Contemporary History (Revised and Updated Edition)
Negotiating on the Edge: North Korean Negotiating Behavior
Rogue State: How a Nuclear North Korea Threatens America
Not all of these books come to the same conclusion. Some treat the Kims as insane egomaniacs. Others see them as shrewd gamblers with a whole country to play away. You’ll have to draw your own conclusions, but I suggest you check them out.
