Barack Socialism with a Smile

Although his newfound ‘inevitable front runner’ status may disappear after the March 4 primaries, if the current polls are to be believed, it seems that the temporary passing of the crown has been enough to inform the media that Barack may not be the perfectly innocent, perfectly palatable (ever so infallible) candidate that they’ve been pretending he is.

Ankle Biting Pundits links us to an interesting story that would spell disaster for Obama if it turns out to have legs. I’m not counting on the mainstream media to pick this one up.

The press is really beginning to notice the vapidity of Sen. Obama’s rhetoric. No one but a false messiah would plagiarize one of the most liberal governors in the country.

Barack Obama: “Don’t tell me words don’t matter … ‘I have a dream’ — just words? ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal’ — just words? ‘We have nothing to fear but fear itself’ — just words? Just speeches?”

Deval Patrick: “‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal’ — just words? Just words? … ‘We have nothing to fear but fear itself’ — just words? ‘Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.’ Just words? ‘I have a dream’ — just words?”

The Jawa Report is taking note of Obama’s apparent plagiarism as well. He’s blaming Rove. I’m inclined to agree, but only if there’s some sweet, sweet oil involved– or perhaps infant sacrifice.

Babalu Blog quotes the ever engaging Charles Krauthammer.

There’s no better path to success than getting people to buy a free commodity. Like the genius who figured out how to get people to pay for water: bottle it (Aquafina was revealed to be nothing more than reprocessed tap water) and charge more than they pay for gasoline…

And now, in the most amazing trick of all, a silver-tongued freshman senator has found a way to sell hope…

Interestingly, Obama has been able to win these electoral victories and dazzle crowds in one new jurisdiction after another, even as his mesmeric power has begun to arouse skepticism and misgivings among the mainstream media…

Right Wing News thinks Obama might be weaker than people think.

Over time, as people continue relentlessly hammering Obama for being vacuous, his whole “change, unity, hope” meme will sound increasingly hollow. Then, eventually, it’ll become like John Kerry mentioning his service in Vietnam: people will groan and roll their eyes when he says the words “change, unity, or hope.”

At that point, he’ll be in trouble because “hope” sounds a lot better than taking your handguns away from you. “Unity” sounds much better than a trillion dollar tax increase. “Change” sounds a lot better than wasting the sacrifices of our troops and creating a wave of genocide in Iraq by starting to pull out come hell or high water in early 2009.

I’d like to say that I agree with the notion that Obama’s nothings will become stale before the election, but I think that he has the potential to ride a wave of “change, whooo” all the way to a victory in November. The mainstream media already shills for the Democrats on a regular basis, so he’ll have that edge, and we have seen Obama’s ability to actually draw out the youth vote instead of just get their vocal support between Halo videogame matches.

It just depends on how strong a runner McCain turns out to be, I suppose. I’d still prefer to be running against Hillary.

In fact, Hillary has received over 678,000 more votes in the primaries than Obama. So when it comes down to the old Democratic chant from election 2000 over having every vote count– having the popular vote being the be all end all of the race– things could get dicey.

Hot Air has the video (they’re great about that) and this tidbit.

Both men had anticipated that Mr. Obama’s rhetorical strength would provide a point of criticism. Mr. Patrick said he told Mr. Obama that he should respond to the criticism, and he shared language from his campaign with Mr. Obama’s speechwriters.Mr. Patrick said he did not believe Mr. Obama should give him credit.

You can’t plagiarize someone with their consent; that’s not theft, it’s Christmas.

So nevermind. That shallowness armor is still securely in place.
