Now we’re starting to see joint ticket stories floating around the press. I think it was the Clinton camp that brought this up, or at least was willing to respond to the question, so what is Hillary’s motivation in all of this? As it stands right now, I don’t see any motivation on the parts of either Hillary or Obama to link their wagons for the General election.

Hillary could be attempting to smooth over her internal Democrat base after ratcheting up the negativity last week; lulling them into believing that Obama might have a place even if they vote for her. This plays into the inexperience of Obama attack perfectly as I read it, because now Hillary can allow Democrat primary voters to believe (without coming out to confirm or deny it) that it’s possible that the experienced Hillary would reach out to Barack and form a SUPER TEAM for the general election. Everybody would win and the Democrats would end up reunited! Oh happy day.

Personally, I’m betting she wouldn’t put him on the ticket at all, but if a few choice words here and there can land her a few suckers during the primary that would otherwise go to Obama, she’ll make any sort of allusion she can. Pump those dreams, Hillary, pump those dreams!

Obama would have no reason to accept being her VP. This would tie him down for up to 8 years, relegating him to a symbolic post given that Hillary isn’t going to take council from the pup Obama like Bush has been known to do with Cheney. He could very easily gain more Senate experience instead, championing her bills if she were able to pull off a November win, and become the standard bearer for 2016. Obama doesn’t need Hillary on his ticket; she doesn’t bring in many extra Democrat voters. The polls bear this out. The overwhelming majority of Democrat voters could handle Obama instead of Hillary, while quite a few more would be seriously disconcerted over a Hillary primary win.

So is this a campaign strategy by Hillary or is it just the media creating fantasies where all the Democrats get along perfectly and come out in November to crush those mean old Republicans? It looked pretty contentious at the caucus.

… or are we going to see Hillary/Obama? Could we enter that particular twilight zone? That would be a tough nut to crack. I hope Obama’s supporters would still feel disenfranchised enough to lessen that enthusiasm and not turn out in overwhelming numbers.
