Gallup Poll: Americans like Canada, dislike Iran. Favored / Least Favored Nations.

It’s a nice concise presentation, so I won’t chop up any of the graphics for placement here. Go look at it.
Canada and Great Britain have topped Gallup’s country rankings each of the 12 times since 1989 that both countries have been measured, although in most cases Canada has led Great Britain by a few percentage points. The only other country to approach 90% favorability over the years has been Australia. On each of the three occasions it was included in Gallup’s country list, including last year, it ranked just as high as Great Britain.
Altogether, 10 countries rated in the Feb. 11-14, 2008, poll are viewed favorably by a majority of Americans. Following the top four, Israel receives a 71% favorable rating, similar to the 69% for both India and France. About 6 in 10 Americans have a favorable view of Egypt, South Korea, and Mexico.
…
Ten countries are viewed unfavorably by at least half of Americans. Of these, Iran, North Korea, the Palestinian Authority, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Cuba are viewed more negatively than positively by a greater than 2-to-1 margin. Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, and China have somewhat more moderately negative images.
I’m surprised that so many people have a negative image of Iraq itself, as it isn’t the Iraqi people (for the most part) who are causing the current problems there. You would think that our country would have a little more support for the nation that is struggling to survive; a country being defended by American military blood. Republicans apparently do, as 30% have a favorable view of Iraq, while only 12% of Democrats do. Ironic that those on the left who are so quick to trumpet the calamity that Iraq civilians face as a justification for retreat are also so overwhelmingly unhappy with the nation itself. Maybe they thought they were voicing their displeasure with the foreign troops serving in Iraq when they denounced it.
That probably isn’t fair, the questioning used by Gallup is particularly vague. Still, another unhappy trend is that the majority of younger people see China favorably. Cheap electronics and decent takeout aside, China is still a nation run by repressive Communists that likes to subjugate, slaughter and selectively abort its population. I guess you don’t learn much bad about Mao in high school or college, eh?
