Did I miss the “Attack the Catholics” memo this morning?
Posted by: Neocon in Iraq, Nutter Butters, ReligionI guess that these idiots heard the recent message from Osama Bin Laden blasting the Pope.
Six people were arrested at Holy Name parish’s auditorium Sunday after disrupting an Easter mass to protest the Iraq war.
The group-whose female and male members identified themselves as Catholic Schoolgirls Against the War-stood up at the beginning of Cardinal Francis George’s homily and shouted their opposition to the conflict, which marked its fifth anniversary last week. As security guards and ushers tried to remove them from the service, the demonstrators squirted fake blood on themselves and parishioners dressed in their Easter finery.
The red substance, which one protester later described as “stage blood,” initially drew gasps and a few terrified yelps from the 600 worshipers at the mass. The shock, however, quickly transformed into anger as people booed the six while they were escorted from the parish auditorium.
Here’s video of the interruption, if you’re interested in watching the stupidity. Watch the initial reaction of the parishioners when the fake blood is sprayed. That’s terrorism right there, you hypocritical small-minded goofballs. You know, terrorism? When you do something violent, like throwing fake blood on innocent people, to compel a group toward a certain political opinion.
They chose to attack this Catholic church supposedly because they wanted to remind the flock that the Chicago mayor met with evil overlord Bush. Of course that’s bogus, they obviously missed the part where the Pope has also met with George Bush, something that would have been a more plausible excuse, but what was the real reason they were there?
In a statement issued Sunday afternoon by Catholic Schoolgirls Against the War, the group said it protested at Holy Name “to reach both Holy Name’s large Easter audience—including Chicago’s most prominent Catholic citizens, who commonly attend Easter mass at the church—and the many more viewers and readers of the local press, which usually extensively covers their services.”
Ah, so free publicity and selfishness are at the root of liberal activism once again. How did that work out for them? And why throw fake blood on other people inside a Catholic church, anyway?
As you can hear on the video, the protester’s say that “it’s important to have a visual.”
Newsflash Nutters: It’s a political statement, not some low-budget stage play no one will pay to watch. That’s why you don’t actually help anything. You add nothing to the debate, only a tedious criminal annoyance that turns those already against the war against you as well.
Thankfully this bunch is being charged with felony criminal damage to property. I’d love to see some of the individuals who were sprayed file civil suits as well but at least there are some criminal consequences for this bunch.
Gateway has the mugshots for these morons.
