Another rumor about Condi campaigning for the McCain’s VP slot surfaces (and dominates) on the Drudge Report.

(from ABC)
ABCNews’ Mary Bruce Reports: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is actively courting the vice presidential nomination, Republican strategist Dan Senor said.
“Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this,” Senor said this morning on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos.”
According to Senor, Rice has been cozying up to the Republican elite.
“There’s this ritual in Washington: The Americans for Tax Reform, which is headed by Grover Norquist, he holds a weekly meeting of conservative leaders — about 100, 150 people, sort of inside, chattering, class types,” Senor said. “They all typically get briefings from political conservative leaders. Ten days ago, they had an interesting visit — Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice — the first time a secretary of state has visited the Wednesday meeting.”
There has been a buzz for Condoleezza Rice to run for a long while now. Dick Morris even co-authored a book on a hypothetical Condi presidential run versus Hillary Clinton. As I’ve said, I’m not in favor of Condi on the ticket because I haven’t been impressed with her record at the State department. Ed at Hot Air addresses some of this, noting that Condi is just following Bush’s line on the Palestinian issue, but there is more than that. Even though she is a genius and an amazing individual, I’ve never seen an off-script interview with Condi where I felt that she was fully comfortable with being in the spotlight. She said all the right things, and she knows the facts, but her delivery doesn’t flow. That doesn’t equate well to public debates. Finally, and unfairly, she represents two minority groups and given that the Democrat ticket will contain one or both of them, many would read her addition to McCain’s ticket as nothing more than attempting to level the playing field. They wouldn’t be right, but the perception would be there. Democrats would also use Condi’s involvement in the Bush administration to support their line that McCain would be “Bush’s third term.” Once again untrue, but the charge would still be levied.
Unfortunately, Condi would just add additional baggage to the McCain ticket. That being said, enough people disagree with me that I have designed a Condi for VP shirt that has done fairly well. So it’s possible that I’m all wet on this.
