This was on top at Drudge earlier, but now it has disappeared. Here’s Barack Obama speaking about Pennsylvanians and middle Americans at large to wealthy liberal Californians.

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.

And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

And here I thought we’d only be getting more bilge like this from Michelle! It’s no wonder that she hasn’t been silenced, her husband doesn’t know when to shut up either!

Do we even need to examine why this statement is offensive and completely unrepresentative of the “New Politics” that Obama claims to represent? If this doesn’t confirm to you that Obama is a 100% classic liberal, I don’t know what will.

Enjoy some capitalism on the subject. Anti-Obama shirts, hot off the graphic design presses!

And candidate reaction. They smell red meat, get ‘em boys!

Hillary:

“It’s being reported that my opponent said that the people of Pennsylvania who face hard times are bitter,” Clinton said during a campaign event in Philadelphia. “Well that’s not my experience. As I travel around Pennsylvania. I meet people who are resilient, optimist positive who are rolling up their sleeves.”

“Pennsylvanians don’t need a president who looks down on them,” she said. “They need a president who stands up for them, who fights hard for your future, your jobs, your families.”

McCain:

Asked to respond, McCain adviser Steve Schmidt called it a “remarkable statement and extremely revealing.”

“It shows an elitism and condescension towards hardworking Americans that is nothing short of breathtaking,” Schmidt said. “It is hard to imagine someone running for president who is more out of touch with average Americans.”

Hot Air has the audio. Michael Goldfarb at the Weekly Standard correctly ties it to Obama’s “typical white people” statement.

Update 11:20PM CST: Sister Toldjah chimes in. Hot Air follows with updates. Obama is trying to change the subject. Kudos to the McCain campaign for continuing to lay into him. The question remains: will McCain himself be able to so eloquently jab at the Messiah? It’s great to have campaign statements, but I want to see our presumptive nominee just dip his war hero little toe in the mud.
