Almost every good horror movie starts with a teaser. This is particularly prevalent in monster movies where we are treated to a glimpse of the destruction caused by our fiend instead of a straight-on wide shot of the creature itself. The easiest example is our drunken nude swimmer from Jaws.

Imagine for a moment that America has had a few too many after a late night of beach partying and we’re feeling just a bit frisky, flirting with ‘hope’ and ‘change’, the sort of vapid dribble that makes up so many drunk philosophical discussions. It’s a chilly November 4th and we dive right in, shedding our stuffy fiscally conservative policies and our resolve in the War on Terror in anticipation of eight years of fun and frivolity.

As the youth vote passes out on the shore as they do most every electoral cycle, we wade out further and further into the refreshing surf until there’s nothing but the calm that comes from having the pressure of making a decision lifted from us- it was too hard to really look at the issues. McCain was old and Obama sounded good. Now we can just float along here to the soft repetition of two alternating musical notes.

America starts to notice that our youthful companions haven’t followed us, the calm starts to wear away. How long have we been floating here? It’s so easy to lose track of the time what with all the platitudes and unexplained spending increases we’ve been promised. That music is still going, in fact it’s building.

What was that? Did something just brush past our thigh? It’s still dark out here. The water is black. The shore is so far away now; the headlights on the Straight Talk Express have blinked out from view. Something definitely is moving down there. It’s rushing up toward us. A fuzzy, gray mass looms below. We’re exposed and the current swirls around our toes- this thing isn’t going to be content with a little nibble.

BAM! It strikes as the music crescendos.

After the November election, Democrats will push for a second economic stimulus package that includes money for the states’ stalled infrastructure projects, along with help paying for healthcare expenses, food stamps and extended unemployment benefits, U.S. Rep. Barney Frank said Thursday.

In a meeting with the editorial board of The Standard-Times, Rep. Frank, D-Mass., also called for a 25 percent cut in military spending, saying the Pentagon has to start choosing from its many weapons programs, and that upper-income taxpayers are going to see an increase in what they are asked to pay.

And we haven’t even seen the beast in full yet! Once the Messiah gets into office with a full Democratic Congress at his side, you’ll be set for enough political/economic carnage so we won’t be able to top it with a sequel.

And to think, I wasted all my popcorn on the Republican primaries. Are you on the edge of your seat yet? It’s coming to an electorate near you next month…

More on walking into the open jaws at Michelle Malkin, Hot Air, This Ain’t Hell, but…, and Bobby McGill.
